stobbie
I have some play in my rear axle from one of my old 110's. Can I just weld my drive flanges to my half shafts or is that bad for something? I know you can buy one piece shafts with drive flanges so I think it should not be a problem?

The heat from welding could reduce the strength to less than a chocolate ice cream.
nicksmelly
I know plenty of comp safari racers who weld their flanges to their shafts with no problems...
western
replace the driving members or some have welded the drive member to the shafts but only around the external face.
kkk2
I have welded them with a 29\9 welding rod with no problems just make sure the shaft and drive hub as square to each other.
Giles tout terrain
I've welded mine on my racer, been like it for ages with no problems at all
Diff
Did mine on my 110 with the mig ages ago. No probs, just make sure the flanges are at right angles to the shaft. I tack welded mine in a couple of places on the inside of the flange to stop any flex on the outside weld. Regards, Diff
Steve Hiatt
I've done it too without a failure, if the shaft spline is worn you have nothing to lose. Whether it invalidates your insurance & MOT and leaves you open for an SVA, I have no idea or care.
stobbie
Thanks guys! I Guess I'll just take a try... This car has been stood for years and I have several jobs to do. It's an old 1983 110 softtop and I'm planning to drive it to Greece in two weeks with my 5 meter boat on a trailer behind it. Already changed the cambelt of the 200tdi, engine is ok. I've adjusted the swivels and manual steering box. Have been welding on the chassis for three days now, but there are still a lot of holes in it. That's my main concern, that it may break when towing my boat. But already replaced all outriggers, both spring hanger on the back, front turrets, all bushes, shocks... Now I will have to find a tow bar and I will have to make some kind of cover for the pickup area, otherwise they will steal my stuff I'm affraid. Lots do do still..
