Ben_J85JTY
Just found the showerheads that Boab use, not sure what they would charge but the manufacture sells direct. Showerhead and Hose £20 or so. The pumps are available on ebay for about £50 So the main costs seem to be the tank.
Ivan
A point Peter mentioned above is a good one. He said all his Jerry Cans were insulated with felt. It also applies to a lot of the stuff you will have to carry (food etc). When we did the Simpson we were advised to wrap any tinned food in Newspaper (don't forget to write on top what's in the tin). It is amazing how much stuff will rub and even tins can rub through each other. Same goes for packet food as well. HTH Ivan
tacr2man
seperate 20l jc are way to go, reasons , if you get a leak , and it goes unoticed you dont lose all your water , same thing with contamination , only affects 1 can . Easily adjustable quantity /weight reduction . no pumps and plumbing , except for filtration KISS principle . Mod black jc on roof will give good shower , flow rate can be adjusted by losening /tightening filler cap, screw plastic shower head onto small filler using plumbing parts . Just be careful it can be very hot , eg simpson all day. Empty cans can be put on roof rack when not needed . By the way whats with all this washing lark when crossing very arid regions , drinking is the priority . The Ozzies thought we poms only had a bath once a year anyway

I recently bought the Rugged Guide DVD, which I think is rather good. There is a bit where he shows the damage done to his cookset by sand entering the bottom of his Wolf boxes. These holes are only about 4-5mm, and the sand got in and totally rubbed of his non-stick coating on one pot due to all the rattling about & rubbing within the box! Godlykepower
....and on the subject of shower heads and such, I quite like Paul Marsh's suggestion to me to use a tank that you can pressurise by pumping it up, and showering with the misted water from the end bit.... I dont really know where these tanks are used? Gardening perhaps? Any thoughts on THAT particular nugget? And what these tanks are actually used for, and of course, where to get one. The way he described them to me, was that there about a 1.5-2 foot tall, and about 8-10 inches in diameter. The pump handle sits on top somewhere. Martin Edited to add: Maybe something like THIS? soutie
Here are photo's of the tray plus filter. The pump was mounted under the bonnet as it was bought to work with a heat exchange unit for a shower. The shower was once, but the pump and the filter on most days of the trip. I used brass push fit hose connectors which where used to connect the pump to the pipe we put in the jerry cans and to the filter.
RichardAllen
I have done a bit of work tidying up my water system design. I put it onto Powerpoint, which cannot be uploaded here, so I have converted each slide an include the set below. For my requirements, the system must be able to: 1. Load water into on-board storage from : High and low pressure mains water taps near vehicle Water sources, such as wells, lakes and ponds, streams and rivers 2. Provide ambient temperature safe water for drinking/cooking, 3. Provide ambient temperature water for : Personal hygiene and showering, laundry vehicle servicing. from: On-board storage High and low pressure mains water taps within 10m of vehicle Water sources, such as wells, lakes and ponds, streams and rivers within 10m of vehicle up to 3m below vehicle ground level 4. Discharge stored water 5. Back-flush pipes, connections and filters for cleaning 6. Function using manpower, water pressure and 12V DC only. Attached are the slides setting it all out. I hope they are readable and useful Regards Richard PS If you want the Powerpoint original, pm me.

Godlykepower
Downloaded a copy of the catalogue from CAK Tanks today, it is quite a large (25mb) but it seems that they do a lot of stuff that can be utilised in motorhomes/caravanning or overlanding - LED lights, gas bottles & connections ets. plus just about anything you could think of relating to water tanks. The catalogue can be found HERE. I have another option in the pipeline for a custom stainless tank, but if I decide not to go that way, then I quite like the one on page 10 - the Calypso Chubby 077. I have just measured up, and that will be as near to a perfect fit as I can find. I also get to own a product called a Calypso Chubby, and how cool is that!
