Defender 200tdi into RRC?

I am really just thinking aloud at the moment, I had a conversation today that got me thinking.

I have a 200tdi 90 and 3.9 V8 RRC auto . Would it be possible to switch the engines and gearboxes round, so give a 200 RRC and V8 90.

Yes but it would be easyer to put a Disco tdi in but you 200tdi defender engine is rear so you could swap it with a disco one.

Thanks Jules,

I know that a disco is fairly straight forward, it is just because I happen to have the Defender engine that prompted the question. The aim would be to do it on as low a budget as possible!

It isn't as simple as it sounds. The defender 200tdi gearbox has a shorter bellhousing and input shaft than the one normally fitted to discos and rangies, plus I am pretty sure the gearchange is in the wrong place too.

With the turbo on the defender 200tdi in the high position(compared to the low position of the disco/rangie version of the 200tdi), and the timing cover/waterpump differences, you might have plenty of fitting difficulties and pipe work issues.

Regards,

Diff

And you'll end up with both vehciles off the road at the same time, dunno if that'll be a problem for you.

Get a disco 200 or 300 tdi and box to put in the RR, put the V8 and box into the 90, then flog the 200tdi and box out of the 90 for more than you paid for the disco one.

That was what I was trying to say in a round about sort of way

yep, sell the defender 200Tdi (at least a grand) and buy a disco one (£600- £800) less work, and less money... anyone out there planning to fit a disco 200Tdi into a defender will, or certainly should be up for a deal......
