Mixing tyre sizes

Recommended Posts

Currently we have 235/85 tyres on one of our discoverys and I want to change to 265/75 however I don't want to buy 4 tyres in one go due to the expense! Can anyone see a problem running 235/85 on the front and 265/75 on the rear? The difference in diameter of the two tyres is only a couple of millimetres.

IMHO so long as the tyres on an axle are the same, I can`t see a drama, I would start at the back. But why not just save up and get all 4 in one go?

Basically because one of the current back ones has got a slow puncture so needs changing sooner rather than later!

Why not just get the puncture fixed for now until you can afford the 4 tyres.......just a thought. ;)

Its a sidewall puncture so not fixable sadly plus the tyre is wearing low on its tread too.

why not fit an inner tube.

you'll still have it when you change tyres

If the worst happened and you had an accident you would be heavily criticised for having odd tyres. That said the 2mm will make no real difference

I will have (in next 2-3 weeks) a set of part-worn BFG AT's for sale if you are interested. 3 have around 6mm of tread, and one slightly less... Still well over 10000 miles I would wager...

I'm getting my wheels re-finished, but I will be fitting new tyres after (BFG AT's again).

let me know if you are interested (the tyres are in Scotland, but I travel tregularly to NW England).

I would like around £25 per tyre, or £80 for the set...
