monkeyboy867 Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 Hi, Is there a standard conversion from a manual gearbox to an automatic gearbox for my 1991 4 door 200tdi disco. Love the car, but fed up with manual.... I've trawled the forum but cant find anything here ta Quote
BogMonster Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 Not sure whether a 300Tdi box is a straight swap or not - best advice will be to talk to Ashcroft Transmissions, what they don't know about this sort of stuff you could write on the back of my ear. Dave Ashcroft is a member of LR4x4, pm ashtrans The only comment I would make is that any 200 is by now getting quite long in the tooth and a 300Tdi has to work quite hard with an automatic gearbox so the slightly less powerful 200Tdi will be slightly worse off and working a bit harder to shift the same weight. May not do a lot for engine life in other words given your engine is 18 years old ... just a thought. Quote
cipx2 Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 This THREAD from the forum down under covers both the answer and BM's advice. Quote
saltyoldseadog Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 I asked exactly this question in relation to my '93 Disco 200 Tdi and my Guru, Mark Knight of KVMS, said it would be cheaper to sell the manual vehicle and buy an auto. I love automatics and had a '97 300 Tdi which was great, like flying a magic carpet, apart from the fact that we couldn't get more than 23 mpg. This older manual one does a comfortable 30mpg but if anyone has an economical answer to the manual/auto problem, I would love to hear it. Quote
