Soren Frimodt Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Hello Gents. Just did a chassis swap on my '85 oneten and found out that the fueltank really isn't very good. Due to all the advantages of a plastic fuel tank, I was wondering whether it would be a fairly straight forward swap? I was thinking about the plastic tank off of a TD5, but possibly it's also made of plastic on the later v8's? Anybody has any experience or knowledge on the subject? Any help would be thankfully recieved Cheers Quote
Quagmire Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 I'd be interested to know the answer to this as my Dad just bought an 1988 v8 110. Quote
thirstybeast Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 I have a 1999 110 that was built with a carbed 3.5 v8, it has a plastic tank like the TD5's of the same year so I guess the only diffrence is the fuel pump assy in the tank. I would have thought parts were available to convert yours but I dont know about chassis brackets. Quote
BogMonster Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 As above - I am pretty sure the later plastic tanks are all the same regardless of engine - just the sucky bit that goes in the hole in the top that is different, and the chassis mounting points. I guess that given the vehicle is the same length, the hole in the chassis where the tank fits can't be much different so it shouldn't be rocket science. Quote
andymc0001 Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Hi chaps, I'm fitting one to my 110 v8. The tank is out of a 300tdi RTO model and came off ebay with all the pipes, fuel lines and filler neck assembly. The tank is also fitted to the td5 but mine doesn't have the pump just the sender, i've fitted a 300tdi so i have the lift pump. To fit you'll need to make a couple of brackets and weld to the rear crossmember, then drill a couple of holes in the crossmember forward of the tank, then you can fit the cradle that supports the tank. the wiring is just for the sender to fuel guage so pretty straight forward. With this tank fitted you can't attach the anti roll bar to the original mounts so i removed mine, you could make new mounts but it's not a requirement just an option. This tanks deeper than the v8 or UK 300tdi. I haven't connected it up yet but the pipes are the rubber ones and come with push connectors. It should last longer than the chassis supporting it. I hope this helps you. Quote
Soren Frimodt Posted October 7, 2009 Author Posted October 7, 2009 Thank's to everybody for your input. It would really be a shame to cut and weld in my new chassis as it is galvanized. So think I'll drop the idea. Otherwise sounds like a pretty straightforward operation Quote
