trt1617 Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 hello all just a quick question about a snapped cam belt on a 300 tdi engine nice short slow trundle to work this morning and just down the road from where i park cut out no noise no bang just stopped a quick turn of the key and the sound i really didnt want to hear. that i have no cambelt attached engine turn over sound. what are the chances of it being ok with a new belt kit and maybe a few push rods? how many pushrods are there in there? and any thing to watch out for when doing it? and really cheaky but anyone got the locking tools and pully remover tool i could borrow? live near ely or can it be done without all the locking pins and stuff any of you had any problems with cambelt kits from paddocks????? many thanks in advance Quote
cipx2 Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 what are the chances of it being ok with a new belt kit and maybe a few push rods? 99.99% if done right how many pushrods are there in there? 8 and any thing to watch out for when doing it? nothing more than what's already in the cambelt change threads in the tech archive or can it be done without all the locking pins and stuff it can be done without the locking pin but you'll still need a drill bit, 2 M8 bolt, a piece of scrap iron with two 9-10 mm holes in it, most likely an extension bar and some loctite - these would be the bare minimum (and tools, of course) any of you had any problems with cambelt kits from paddocks?????why ask, you want to be the 1st? the belt is ok but the tensioner(s) is a gamble.
