draper40 Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Hey, About a week ago i replaced the clutch master cyclinder and realised that the clutch was slipping a bit under quick throttle application. I adjusted it accordingly but it then started slipping again, i readjusted and now it has just started sliiping again, quite majorly under load. Does anyone know what is causing this? Thanks Pete Quote
draper40 Posted October 8, 2009 Author Posted October 8, 2009 This is a new Borg and Beck clutch which has done less than 2000 miles! Quote
santalars Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 A new slave and master cylinder put my cltuch to the limit as well. At least with the pedal adjustment as described in the workshop handbook. I solved it by adjusting the pedal in a way that the master cylinder is fully pulled out when the pedal is released. For sure you have to make sure that the cltuch is also fully disengaged when the pedal is pressed, so expect a couple of test drives and readjustments before it's perfect. On the other side if you drove like this for 2000 miles it may be that the cltuch has slipped under full load in fith gear on the motorway, which would not have done any good. Quote
Ex Member Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Make sure you have freeplay at the master. You could have a bad new master or slave.... Quote
TD5 power Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 hi my new Lucas TRW slave cylinder failed after only 6 months and about 6000 miles, the piston was sticking in the bore in effect ridding the clutch which burnt the plate out in a 100 miles, the way you describe it sounds exactly the same. Ex Member Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 What exactly do you mean with freeplay?? You need to set freeplay on the rod that pushes on the master cylinder. If there is not freeplay, then the master will push the clutch open all of the time. Quote
white90 Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 And knacker your clutch as it did mine after very few miles. http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=23330&view=&hl=&fromsearch=1 Quote
western Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 do a search for clutch pedal adjustment, I've added a scan of the workshop manual page for this a few times. Quote
