V8 Freak Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 After seeing and hearing the new exhaust system under Nige's truck (HFH) a hole in one of the downpipes of my Janspeed headers gave me the opportunity to go and see the guys at Powerspeed and have a system built for my little 110. Big thanks to Matt for the majority of the hard work and problem solving, and to Dave for helping finish the job and taking the money ! It's hard to describe what happens as the hours tick by, but straight pieces of tubing are shaped, cut, fettled, cut some more, tacked together and then tigged together to make a nice shiny snake under your truck.... Big thanks go out to Luke (LandyMan Luke) who pulled the headers off his project truck at 23:00 Wednesday night and then drove to meet me at Cannock for 01:00 Thursday morning. I managed a total of 2 hours sleep before heading to Ashford to have the exhaust built. Bit of a long story, but I had headers that weren't going to work for the project, so instead of letting Dave at Powerspeed down after he'd set the day aside for me, Luke convinced me(Without much effort) that a bit of madness was in order and 250 miles later I had headers for the exhaust ! After arriving early and leaving late I had a truck that sounded so different. A bit of mapping and tuning needed now to really see what has changed. It sounds sooooo good.... First opportunity to hear it in a tunnel was Dartford.... Enjoy Neil Quote
q-rover Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Would love to get a clip like that of our RR with the custom exhaust, but it's just too well insulated from external sounds that all you hear is a gentle rumble. Quote
BigSi110 Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 That sounds really nice!! If you don't mind me asking, what was the cost? Approx will do. Quote
Hybrid_From_Hell Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 He'll prob say £32.87 + Vat, as I belive Mrs V8Freak does see the screen now and again Nige Quote
muddy Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 He'll prob say £32.87 + Vat, Nige Nige i believe the question was relating to the cost of the exhaust not to the amount of fuel used during that clip Will *disappearing in a cloud of over fueling sootyness* Quote
V8 Freak Posted October 10, 2009 Author Posted October 10, 2009 I'll not disclose costs in open forum in case one of you is sleeping with Mrs Freak.... Knowing the prices of stock systems, it was more expensive, but it was built for the truck, designed to give me some more torque for high end cruise on overdrive and a nice rumble. It will probably out last the truck unlike the Janspeed "stainless" headers that were only 6 years old. So for me, it's great value and if it delivers the torque once it's re-tuned I'll be a very happy chappie. When you drive sensibly (which happens rarely....) it's just a pleaseant rumble under the truck.. Nice and deep. When your press "loud" it obeys nicely... Neil Quote
Godlykepower Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Very nice Neil. I am not really a massive fan of that V8 sound, but that does sound very nice indeed. I have used Powerflow several times now, both here in the UK, and in South Africa where the parent company Noise Boys originate from. Every time I have used them, I have nothing but praise for them & their work. If the results you get after completing the re-map of the V8 are anything like the results I got after the re-map of my very tuned Toyota I had in SA, then be prepared to be a very happy boy! Be careful though. You will be grinning like an idiot most of the time, and there is a risk that the top of your head may come adrift. Martin Edited to say: I really should read more carefully. You went to Powerspeed NOT Powerflow. Quote
V8 Freak Posted October 10, 2009 Author Posted October 10, 2009 Martin, I think you need to take more water with whatever you are drinking matey! Powerspeed clearly at the top of the thread ! <Hic> As for the losing the top of my head.... Physically my head or are you referring to one bank on the V8 in particular ? (Cus you know most Diseasels are missing 4 cylinders.. ) Keep posting up like that Martin and I'll not be sure they'll let you out of the country ! (Or maybe not back in......) Neil Quote
white90 Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Looks ace sounds Better Now a trip to the Mont Blanc tunnel for the full effect. Quote
Godlykepower Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 (Cus you know most Diseasels are missing 4 cylinders.. ) Or another way of putting it......diesels are more awesome with only half the cylinders?! Seriously though, these clips pop up all the time, with people showing off their engine sound, and even though I like them; I am never more than mildly impressed. For the first time ever, after watching your clip, my first thought was "I want one of those bad mo fo's" Maybe when I get back from the trip and I have declared myself bankrupt getting one of these can be my project. Pete Attryde Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 Glad to see you got this sorted. I have to say I was only joking when I suggested pinching Luke's headers, but as ever the generosity of people on this forum astounds me. Look forward to hearing it in the flesh in a couple of weeks time. Pete. Quote
V8 Freak Posted October 11, 2009 Author Posted October 11, 2009 The suggeston was a seed Pete. A chat with Nige earlier and he suggested the forum members could work miracles... Got chatting with Luke on MSN and he suggested a night of madness... The rest is history! See you in a few weeks! Neil Quote
