Rob110 Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Can anyone fit me a hook on some Bowrope near Kidderminster, Worcestershire or would a boat yard be able to do it? Cheers Rob Quote
Milemarker Type S Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Err- no reason why you cannot do it! It is not like splicing a normal rope. The bowrope is like a tube with a hole down the middle- run the rope through a thimble on the hook then open up a hole in the side of the rope about 18 inches from the end of the line and 'milk' the end of the rope into the hole and down the middle of the line until the hole meets the thimble- ideally so you have about an 18 inch length of line inside the outer rope. Easier to show then describe in words! The line then works like a 'finger trap'- the harder the pull on the line the tighter it grips the rope inside. I am fairly sure there is a video link on David Bowyers website? Quote

JST Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Si i didn't follow your description initially thinking you were feeding the rope in 18" from the thimble!! I do mine as per Simon mentions and as on the linked video except that i feed it completley through several times before passing it down the middle. Quote
