Morning all,

Just a quick one.

Went greenlaning at the weekend and half way up a hill the clutch peddal went right to the floor so I was unable to change gear. Turned the motor off and let it stand for a few minuite then tried again - success, clutch back.

Bloke I was with said its probably got bubbles of air in it due to being bounced all over the place.

Could this be a valid reason?

Went down town last night to play pool, on the way back (only done 1/2 mile) the same thing happened.

But I was still in gear so carried on. By the time I was at the next junction (another few hundred yards) the clutch was ok again.

Drove to work this morning clutch worked but i'm sure the bite was in different places each time.

Checked the level of fuild and its in the middle of the filler (a Girlings ally one). I had checked fluid levels about 4 weeks ago and its the same as then.

So could it be air in the system due to bouncing about? if so how do I bleed it?

Any other ideas please?

Cheers,

SpenB

I had a clutch-drop som time ago and the culprit was the master clutch leaking like wild honey. Simply change it. I assume the return spring holding the pedal is also fine. I did change both and I have used it for almost 3 years.

OK thanks for that,

If I pump the pedal 20 times the stiffness can be in a different place 10 times - any where from 1/2" of travel to 4" of travel.

Cant see any leaks at all.

Think I will change the Master and the Slave Cylinder anyway to eliminate those.

Thanks for the reply.

Sounds like Master Cylinder. If the slave cylinder were the culprit it would be leaking past the seals and you would notice a loss of fluid.

HTH,

Mark.

OK thanks,

I've ordered a master cylinder as well as a slave.

Knowing my luck i'd change just the master and the slave would give up so i'll just do them both.

Thanks again.
