Retroanaconda Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Hello all. It seems that after the fun in the sand/mud at Hogmoor on Sunday my bonnet has decided it doesn't want to play ball and open. Initially thought it was the cable jamming so removed the grill and undid that but even pulling on the lever arm under the slam panel with all my might the damn thing won't release. I tried removing the two M6 bolts which retain the tops of the angled slam panel struts, to see if the whole latch assembly would lift out but still to no avail. Is there any other way to get in there? Thanks Quote
Les Henson Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 It's probably jammed-up with mud, etc. Try blasting in the lock with a jet washer or similar. WD40 might do it as well. Les. Quote

I believe you are correct as to the reason Les, however no matter how much I jetwash it it doesn't want to move any more (PS Les, did you get my PM re. stickers?) Quote
Les Henson Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 (PS Les, did you get my PM re. stickers?) Yes, I've been away for 10-days and have a lot of pm's to get through. Les. Quote

Mine did this a long time ago and seem to remember sorting it by applying pressure while trying to release it by hand. i.e. a use a crowbar and brute force It popped open with no damage to the bonnet or body work. martinspragg Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 This has sort of already been mentioned but I have owned a few chevy trucks and it seems that as they get older the bonnet refuses to open easily so the trick is to pull on the opening lever whilst doing a drum roll on the front of the bonnet above where the latch is located. You need awfully long arms to do it on your own so I suggest getting a helper or putting something behind the bonnet lever to keep it on the open place. The drum roll is not a hard bash but a few light beats with your palms and the bonnet pops up. The locals here (Garifuna) have a great drumming tradiiton and are masters at this technique. Quote
