Hello there folks,

Bit of a weird question, but I recently had to drop the rear seats of my '99 D2 TD5 and on putting them back upright they dont seem to of locked into place, the base is firmly in place but there seems to be a lot of play (forward/backward)in the upright section. I've tried the usual of repeating slowly, applying force, swearing loudly and at one point was bouncing on em trying to see if they would click into place... all of which failed, even attacking the mechanisms with WD"fixall"40 failed to make any alteration (I was hoping it just needed a bit of freeing up after being upright for so long without dropping). I was just about to call it quits and just accept the fact they had allways been like that when a friend of mine commented that the seats were loose while on a trip.

Ive searched the forum with no luck, and cant find any mention of this querk anywhere. Im pretty sure it was solid before as the "loose" comment was from someone who has traveled in the back many times.

Any help/guidance gratefully recieved as everytime I sit in the back "to check" it seems to be worse in my mind ;oD

thanking you in advance...

I don't know what you call loose but there is a good inch of forward and backward movement at the top of the seat in mine, has been like that since new and it is just due to a poxy design in the seat latching mechanism. The D1 latches at the top of the seat back but the D2 just locks in the hinge mechanism and has got way too much play in it. I have 2 bungee cords on mine going from the telescopic headrest mounts down to the tiedown rings in the back as I got sick of it rattling on rough roads after about the first six months and they are all like that. If yours is worse then maybe there is something stuck or broken or worn in the mechanism.
