sotal Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Noticed a few times that when looking at the list of threads the stats don't seem to make sense. I've just looked in the series forum and the thread at the top is: "Measurements for AMR3098" and the stats are: # 1 Replies # 0 Views How can it have 1 reply but 0 views? I realise it's not the most important thing but thought it should be mentioned
Les Henson Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 If you read a thread, but don't reply, then it's shown as 'read'. If you read a thread and then reply, it'll be just shown as a 'reply' and not a 'view' as well. I thought everyone knew that You could read, it, look at a different thread, then come back and reply to it, you get both and win a banana Ain't you got any work to do ? Les.
sotal Posted October 15, 2009 Author Posted October 15, 2009 But I read that thread twice and haven't replied at all! Yes I have got work to do - but I'm trying to avoid it
Les Henson Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 In that case there's a bug (why did you read it twice?) Normal service will be restored as soon as possible (after you've done some work perhaps ) Les.
cipx2 Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 That's because the user who replied did it with his eyes closed PS: This is a feature implemented some sub-versions ago. The variable holding the Replies data is updated instantly, while the Views are updated once in a while (every hour, every 6 hours, daily etc - can be set within the forum software). This was done because on busy forums continuous updating of that variable might lock the table and people will start moaning about forum not working.
sotal Posted October 15, 2009 Author Posted October 15, 2009 Les I viewed it once earlier then forgot what it was and viewed it again Yep best make myself look busy for the next 50 minutes until hometime That makes a little more sense cipx2, although theoretically I can't imagine that a problem would ever occur from that scenario - it's exactly what mysql databases were designed to do.
cipx2 Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 .... That makes a little more sense cipx2, although theoretically I can't imagine that a problem would ever occur from that scenario - it's exactly what mysql databases were designed to do. Nothing to do with mySQL (you can maintain a dB by hand afterall), it's the simple matter of accessing the files for read/write. This feature brings a degree of overall performance depending on how fast the server is and how many users are accessing the forum at one time. For more info google for "Update Topic Views Immediately" - this is where you set if there will be a separate table holding the Views data (which is not part of the queries when users access the forum ) until the main table update or not.
Guest noggy Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 cipx2.... are you a robot, or indeed a really well written program running on the LR4x4 server? you seem to know everything, about everything and you seem to never leave!
LandyManLuke Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 cipx2 is correct, the forum software updates 'views' periodically, rather than instantaneously.
tuko Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 cipx2 is correct. Jupp, there is a strong possibility that my eyes were closed momentarily....then open.... Ok time to get back to work. :ralf:
Hybrid_From_Hell Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Dear god almighty I read this and felt the will to live slipping away from me, luckily I managed to look away and check that I was on LR4x4 and not on www.pedanticirreleventtut.com If the thread count / read / views replies isn't working 100% then live with it Being a tech forum about LRs 4x4 etc - this thread is now closed Nige
