Mean Green
Does anyone have experience or recomend mulitcar insurance providers? Both my Disco and 90 are due in a few weeks. I have always been sceptical about these deals, however having seen the advert on TV for Admiral I thought I would get a quote. It seems slightly less than my current 2 seperate policies. Does anyne know of any other providers?
MrKev
3 cars on the policy for the price that two were otherwise for me, so thumbs up so far.
Aragorn
I would imagine if the vehicle is modified you'll have some trouble finding a deal like that.
reb78
I would imagine if the vehicle is modified you'll have some trouble finding a deal like that. As well as what Aragorn says above, steer well clear of Admiral. Cheap maybe, but shoddy service definately. I had a claim against TFL whem i insured my bimmer with Admiral. A pothole 6 inces deep wrecked both tyres and wheels on the offside of the car and it took me two years to get the claim sorted. The 'recommended repairers' took 5 days to change two tyres and missed the fact that the wheels were bent! The car was awful to drive. It took several complaints to get the wheel changed and then i had to push fro two years to get the claim resolved. The Admiral 'specialist claims advisors' simply couldnt be bothered. After much complaining i got them to appoint a decent solicitor. They then failed to pass information to him - claim held up for another 6 months. I contacted the solicitor dorectly in the end, supplied him with the missing info (including the colour photos of the pothole - admiral had only passed on black and white copies of a hole taken in the dark! the colour flash photos i originally took and admiral had, were clear). The claim was then resolved in three weeks and my no claims re-instated and excess refunded. Steer well clear of admiral unless you intend doing all the work (apparently including repairs) in the event of a claim. They were absolute RUBBISH and thats why they were cheap! Elephant is also a sister company of admiral, so avoid them too - they have the same complaints department when you enquire about the financial ombudsman you find that out. Does anyne know of any other providers? I just bought an old rover 416 so please feel sorry for me . I just got it until i get round to replacing my 90's chassis so won't take too long . Anyway, back to the point. My 90 is insured with Adrian Flux because it's modded. But my main car is insured with http://www.swiftcover.com/ . When i got my rover thingy i got quotes and the cheapest way was to take another policy with swift and 'mirror' the no claims discount. The reason i mention this is because policy mirroring does not seem very well known about and means you can use your no claims discount on many cars. Mean Green
Jimmy, My 90 has been with Flux for several years. They haev quoted by mirroring my NCB. There is only a few quid in it, but I think I might stick with Flux as they know Land Rovers and knew what I was talking about. Thansk for the input. Orange
I've had completely the opposite experience with Admiral. My TD5 Disco and the Wife's Seat Leon are both insured on a multi-car policy and it's by far the cheapest way to do it for us. They won't touch anything that's modified (I even had to argue the point when I got the Disco chipped), but for bog-standard stuff, they seem pretty good so far. The Leon was involved in a collision and was repaired within 3 weeks (mostly because the car was drivable, so didn't go in straight away). No problems with the customer service and even though it had to go back to sort out a few chips and paint runs on the new bumper, there were no real issues with the repairing garage either. I have recently renewed the policy and had to do a bit of arguing over the price - the renewal price was nearly twice the price of setting up 2 individual policies with the same company using a well known comparison website. A phone call and heated discussion later and I even got a discount for the anguish and inconvenience that the 'issues' had caused. Now, Adrian Flux..........there's a completely different story. Will never be using them again even if (by some stroke of magic) they are the cheapest.
reb78
NFU all the time now. Good service, willing to listen, dont mind mods, know landrovers and will go a long way to get your trade. Even swapped my home insurance to them. I rent out a room and every other insurer therefore sees me as a landlord - NFU understood that i lived there and simply may have other non family members living there too. headhunter
I insure everything via the NFU, as far as I am concerned they are first rate, supportive if you have a claim and excellent and polite to deal with. John
simonr
I too think NFU are fantastic. I had to insure the Eleccy Freelander with AF because NFU decided it was an 'Experimental Vehicle' (which is true) - but they are excluded from their terms. I went shopping for quotes - and the first time forgot to mention my no claims. Rang back for another set of quotes - and at best it made £10 difference with or without full NCD! I have a feeling it may be a con! Your insurance cost generally goes up each year - and you just assume the increase has been reduced by your additional 20% no claims - but I suspect it's just something to add on when you loose it rather than a discount when you take out the policy. Aragorn
^^ Yep i agree there. Plus you can "protect" or "guarantee" the NCB for extra money, but if you have a crash and its your fault you still have to declare the fault claim. They add on £200 or whatever because you've had a fault claim then still give your 5 years NCB off it, which as you've discovered makes dickall difference, so your premium is £200 up regardless of your protected NCB or not. Mean Green
Well... spoke to my local NFU branh who were very helpful ... right up to the point that they gave me a quote of £650 for the Disco alone!!! Almost 3 time the price quoted elsewhere!! Isnt it strange how people can have so wildly different experience from one company. I would have thought I would have been very easy to insure - really boring - early 30's, 10+ NCB, bog standard Discovery, garaged in decent area, no claims, convictions, nose bleeds or skint knees. I didnt even pay £650 when I was 17 with my own fully comp policy!!! Looks like Admiral or Adrian Flux will get my business .... still a few days to shop around tho! I read on another post about discount from Sureterm for Forum members (??) is this real and how do I go about claiming it?? cheers
