Mark Posted November 30, 2009 Share Posted November 30, 2009 There was indeed a percentage handicap system in place for the Challenger series - This was based on the team's experience, as understood by the organisiers. I think the system had it's good points, and it had it's bad points, but all of which boiled down to how honest people were when they entered. There were also 2 classes for the series based on vehicle spec. This lead to another dimension for the competition. It was not necessarily the team with the most punches that won. Personally I feel it opened up the competition more than if it had not been in place. However, the challenger series was aimed at a clubman level event. It was not intended to be at the same level of competition as the howlin' wolf. I think the nature of the event would not benefit from the system used by the challenger series. How many people in the series this year were in their first year of competition? I think it would be very difficult not to class pretty much all the competitors as expert.... Boothy Posted December 1, 2009 Share Posted December 1, 2009 How this for an idea, Class 3, Standard body (i.e. no traybacks), unmodified chassis, one forward operating winch, tyre size restricted to 37" max, no additional traction aid's i.e.difflocks. Class 2, Tyre size restricted to 37" max, no rear steer, steering must have a mechanical link, windscreen must be fitted, no portal type axles any combination of winches and traction aids may be fitted. Class 1, Unlimited modification's. What do you think, I don't want to cause an uproar, it's just a thought. FLR100 Posted December 3, 2009 Share Posted December 3, 2009 I personaly don't see why any class or car needs to be handicaped for the simple reason is if you handicap a vehicle that has had alot of time, money and effort spent on it then what was the point in the person building that car, you might as well kept your money in your pocket and spent time pursuing other hobbies and stuck with a class 3 car! to me it seems that the person who has spent the time and money in building there truck to a higher spec and then learnt how to use it to it's full advantage should be entitled to an outright win be it a class 3,2 or 1 car. i think most people would agree that there is no such thing as a perfect challenge car that is perfect for all situations, a big 44" shod truck will be perfect in bogs but beaten through a 6ft gap by a susuki, so with that in mind should the susuki be handicapped on the points when there are punches in tight spot's because you can't have it both ways! i personaly believe the class system how it is at the moment is a pefect comprimise Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
najw Posted December 29, 2009 Author Share Posted December 29, 2009 Just to add a little more meat to the bone, 3 of the 4 venues have now been finalised as follows: 11 April - TBC (hopefully a brand new site in Worcestershire) 13 June - Kirton 12 Sept - Wern Ddu, Corwen 7 Nov - Slindon It is anticipated that at Kirton and Slindon there will be a Night Stage running from 7:00-10:00pm on Saturday night. This is still subject to a few logistical issues but this is the plan. If this is the case then there will be a +£20 entry supplement for these two rounds. However food will be included on Sat night for all competitors. This Night Stage will form part of the main event so if you opt not to do it you will be missing out on points. Merry Christmas. but your paying the fuel to get to the weekend anyway, so save beer money, put it to a night stage and then you have 3hrs more off roading for the same travel expenses - i think its a top idea. anyway what you worried about, not being able to run on the Sun after drowning it on the Sat night? Suppose you would have to change the Code of Conduct for drivers or write an appendix or similar. We'll see how we feel a bit closer, if there's any spaces left.
