2002 td5 loosing presure in the fuel line pump having to be primed if left for more than an hour new fuel pump fitted. Someone has told me it could be head gasket. Has anyone any ideas or has this happened to anyone else

Not so sure about head gasket but have you checked for diesel fuel in the engine oil, either by the smell of it or the oil level going up.

Theres a possible problem where the "O" rings on the injectors leak and allow fuel into the oilways around the camshaft in the head.

Cracks in the head are also known to cause this too.

Have you checked around the fuel filter for and signs of leaks/wetness.

Can't be the head gasket. The pressure from the pump only supplies the injectors, the plunger pump in the injectors themselves are the only thing putting pressure into the cylinders and although very high in the injector itself (around 22,000 PSI) the volume is very low so once in the chamber the pressure is again low.

Was it doing this before the new pump was fitted?

Have you checked the fuel filter assembly seals?
