orange rover
did some deep water crossings with the range rover yesterday. the wading plug in the bellhousing was in, but when i removed it, there was water coming out! bit worried now, hope i didn't destroy the box! oil looks fine, no traces of water, i presume that water in the bellhousing doesn't mean that it can reach the gearbox itself? any ideas where the water could enter the bellhousing? regards orange
Turbocharger
All around where it bolts to the engine, I'd guess - unless you can find some kind of giant funky ring gasket to seal the two. I'd check that all the bellhousing bolts are sensibly tight and not worry until it spits the internals onto the road. (Of course, I could be using nearly no knowledge to lull you into a false sense of security but it sounds right to me if the water was deep enough, especially if you let it stand for a bit.) jules
It will come in through the starter motor just keep a eye on it and let any water out at regular intervals. the water can't get into the box but it could contaminate the clutch in a maual. worry when oil comes out
istruggle2gate11
Odds are that if the oil is fine, then the box and torque converter are also. I use copius amounts of RTV silicone sealant around the bell housing and cover plate, and also around the starter motor. That said, sometimes still get water in, although its that clear I think it is condensation more than anything else, positive preasure on the new build! orange rover
thanks for the replies! will stop worying and will check the screws as well as use some sealant to try to get it waterproof. good to know that water can't get into the box and there's no oil comig out. regards orange
jules
positive preasure on the new build! Me to it seams the way to go. PP CV's also to keep the plop out
orange rover
PP CV's also to keep the plop out what are PP CV's? and just out of curiosity (and since i had a look at the parts manual), how is power transmitted between engine and the torque converter? seems like there is no shaft, but rather than a clutch, two plates pressed together, transmitting torque through four "blocks" of some sort? and how is the torque converter supplied with oil, through the shaft? regards orange
