Ok here goes after oil leaks power steering problems leaks and generally fed with my wonderful Discovery 03 gs auto, I have had the XYZ switch changed pressure regulator etc and thought i had solved all the problems total in 12mths £26900.

So here's the problem for no apparant reason it losers power the "S" doesnt work and it's sluggish until i reset it by turning off the engine and start up again, I've had on Landrover computer they can see an earth but nothing else thats why ive had so much work done, i sometimes here a "thunk" and then it defaults although not as bad as it did when the "S" and "D" came on this time nothing like that

I know your going to say "gearbox" but i had that done Jan this Sept this year and that hasnt cured it!

Landrover just replace and charge without curing the fault it's driving me crazy................. i think it's an electrical fault which doesnt show even in the garage with the fault there, i'm at a loss totally

So lads and of course lasses please some guidance

It sounds like its dropping into "limp mode" but its very strange that the ECU isnt logging anything, as if a fault exists which pushes the ECU into limp mode its usually recorded in the fault memory and stays there until its reset.

I'm not sure what you mean by "they can see an earth" but it sounds a bit like the ECU is recording a fault and they're not interpreting it very well. Unfortunately modern engines are very complicated and it could be any one of the many wires, plugs, switches, sensors or actuators thats causing the problem. The output from the ECU's fault memory is in my experience very explicit and invaluable for solving issues like this. It will often tell you exactly which sensor is faulty, how its faulty (ie short to ground, open circuit etc) and if its intermittent or not.

Its perhaps an idea to try a different dealer or an independent specialist if you haven't already, who might be better with the diagnostic kit?

Hi, I would advise you to get the wiring to the gearbox checked now as I personally have seen wires rubbed through on the body doing exactly the same thing. Then if this all checks out it can only really be an ECU fault as long as the new gearbox isn't faulty?! I have never heard of an ECU ever being changed.
