tommac
I have a really odd issue with my newly acquired defender td5 (03 plate), temp gauge works perfectly...climbs to temp as one would expect and settles in at just shy of the half way mark. Every now and again (fairly often but not all the time) the gauge then drops back to about 1/4 when you have your foot on the throttle..if you release the throttle it moves instantly back to its original position...this happens if moving or stopped...the lightest touch of the throttle causes it...i’m guessing this is an electrical issue?? any pointers! Se7enUp
I had something very similar on my Td5. Cured it in the end by doing the following: Under the drivers seat, just next to the ECU is an earth post. Clean this and the ring connectors going to it. I then ran a new earth wire from the battery -ve terminal to this post. The wire runs under the seat box and follows the standard wiring. My wire also went to the ODBC connector under the middle seat - the reason for me doing this is that it's a common mod to get a Nanocom talking to the ECU. The upside is that it completely cured my wandering temp gauge. (mine also used to move it I pressed down hard on the handbrake lever ) Mine was a 99 Td5 but a friend has also done the extra earth wire mod on a 2002 Td5 and it cured his gauge problem too
