lapperz
hi just want to know is it essential to have the bumpstops, as my brackets have rotted away, is it possible i could make my own, even if there only around £3 to buy
western
IIRC if the bumpstop rubbers are missing it's not a reason for a MOT fail http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_240.htm see right hand column paragraph 3. but having them will stop the axles bashing the chassis. mmgemini
One missing three fitted and it's a fail. None fitted and it should be a pass

jericho
My rear tyres (35s) hit the underside of the wheel boxes at full flex without stops - they bent the paneling quite badly after one heavy landing.
Adam001
I have bumpstops on the front but not on the rear, has been like that for at last 5 years. I noticed that the front needed the bumpstops at standard height while off roading, but with a 2" lift they have not been necessary
Orange
You also need to make sure (if you are running modified suspension) that the shocks don't bottom out before the axle hits the chassis. Otherwise you will end up with broken/bent/knackered shocks... It can also mean the difference between the diff hitting the sump and clearing it...
