zeerover
Why don't you change it?
western
at the very least you'll have bent pushrods, maybe a busted rocker, bent valves, change the timing belt if you don't know when it was done, always a wise move on a unknown 'new' to you vehicle
kingrat
I agree with Ralf. Any vehicle new to you I would always replave the cambelt even if I'm told by the vendor when it has been done. Trust yourself when it comes to something criticle, not someone who is interested in a sale.

Les Henson
On a 2/5 N/A (or turbo for that matter), the pushrods will bend, and that's all. The rockers are very tough - up to and including the 200TDi, so don't tend to break. Valve caps may break in half or come off and get flushed into the sump, where you can leave them (the oil pick-up strainer will prevent them from going anywhere. Pushrods are only about £3 each, and then the timing belt and tensioner, timing cover dust seal, timing cover gasket, water pump gasket, and maybe some valve caps are the minimum needed to do the repair. change the timing belt if you don't know when it was done, Might be a good idea of the old one just snapped Lol Les. WarPig
Had mine changed the other week. They fitted an updated kit that supposedly has a shoulder to stop the belt coming off?
western
Had mine changed the other week. They fitted an updated kit that supposedly has a shoulder to stop the belt coming off? that would be on a 300tdi engine, not a 200tdi or older.
