Disco-Ron
HI, i am relatively new to the world of Defenders, i have had a disco for 4 yrs though....... I've just bought my first 90, and the first thing i need is a heavy duty front bumper, it needs ideally to be the original profile, not tapered or anything.... i will most likely mount my winch on top of it in its own tray, i don;t like the winch to be inset in the bumper as it then sits lower, and maybe in the mud/water...... So in short, where can i get a nice strong standard looking front bumper....?? Cheers.
western
most winches/winch trays sit flush with the bottom of the original bumper lower face or the bottom of the ends of the chassis. my Husky winch & bumper & a friends ex-Rapeir 127 [on his previous 127 he converted the LR bumper by making his own box for the X9 to sit in]are a fairly good example of that
Disco-Ron
Thanks, but i want my winch to sit on top of the top rail or the bumper...... just me being picky thats all... Had i waited 10 mins i would have found a suitable bumper, D44 do quite a nice looking one with recovery points!
western
With the winch fitted on top, it might have to much of a twisting action on the bumper when hauling a load in.
Retroanaconda
Goodwinch do a kit to put the winch on top: http://www.dborc.co.uk/goodwinch/pdf/bikini%20kits.pdf It'll still end up in the mud anyhow
Disco-Ron
I've just found David Bowyers bikini kit... which is pretty much what i'm after...... i like the fact that it bolts under the bumper aswell....... However, i'm not sure it'll fit with the D44 HD bumper,....LOL!
western
Well done James, couldn't think where I'd seen the bikini mount before.
Jake Lloyd
However, i'm not sure it'll fit with the D44 HD bumper Looking at the picture of the bikini kit it will fit a D44 HD bumper. The recovery eyes will be outside the mount so won't foul
Disco-Ron
Thanks jake, thats great............ it also means i'll have nice chunky recovery loops for my winch hook to clip into...
landroversforever
A lot of bumpers mount the winch level with the top of the chassis. Thats how mine is. Its a First Four Tubular one.
