mr_mcp
Hello, I’ve tried searching through the old posts but to no avail, apologies if this has been covered previously. My alternator has started to make a squealing sound when the engine is warm and idling, I recently changed the belt tensioner and whilst the belt was off I noticed the bearings sounded shot in the alternator also, but surely that wouldn’t squeal? Is this a common problem and can it be sorted without replacement? Cheers, mr_mcp
Richy B
Search for " the 1p trick" Basicly involves placing a penny on 1 edge of the tensioner to line it up better, Ive never had a TDi so never done it, but sure know of lots that have
pitmole
I would be very wary of the alt now, have had 2 300tdi alts seize on me over the years due to failure from exhaust heat, when they jam up they will stop the engine like it was seized up!Been several flavours of heat shield over the years for them, hope your alt has one fitted.
