PeterW
Morning Quick query... My ignition switch doesn't return on the spring when I turn the engine to run. To pull the engine stop and make it hold I need to turn the key back anticlockwise slightly. It springs back from the starter position, but not when the engine stop is pulled. Is the return spring in the lock barrel or in the switch itself..? Given that I'm planning on doing a 200TDi in the next couple of weeks, I may remove the engine pull stop completely so I need to look at what goes where anyway with the wiring and if I've got to replace anything then thats the time I want to do it. simonb
If you are talking series 3, then the spring is in the steering column lock section not the switch.

Thanks So thats neither the barrel or the switch then... Anyone know if its removable or repairable..? Cheers Pete
ian_s
thats exactly how mine always was, i think it was just slightly worn down so didnt catch. i managed to find a knack of pulling the stop out and flicking the key to off once the engine had stopped. then i changed to a 200tdi so the stop became redundant.
