Mutley
Back again guys Just a quick one lads/lasses as you may or may not be aware recently i treated the truck to a genuine time clock and with the help of several guys managed to get it fitted and up and running Don't worry all is fine and it's working great! My question/query is that the light on the clock is a damn sight better than that of the speed, fuel and temperature gauge! I know the lights as standard are mmmm let's see? oh yes carp to start with (have candles that shine brighter) would putting new bulbs in improve them? I know there are LED kits but don't really want to go that route. If the rest of the lights were as good as the time clock I would be more than happy, as it is though I can easily live with if that has to be the case. Cheers Mutley
western
new bulbs won't make a big difference, the clock IIRC is a Td5 unit, these are very similar to the VDO Vision range of gauges & most likely made by VDO for LR, about the only way to improve the other gauges is to change to leds or the full Td5 instrument pack as some of us have swapped too. Phillis
the bulbs are 501 sidelight bulbs,, i got some led ones (white ) and they make the green light that comes through a different shade.. but there are alot brighter.. and just straight fit.. Retroanaconda
Better bulbs will help a bit, but they're still the old fashioned style of illumination. Newer gauges (like your clock, and the Td5 gauges) have a backlit style of illumination which is much more effective. I know what I'd do
Mutley
The clock is a standard one for the 300tdi so I was expecting it to be as dim as the other gauges. So what are we saying lads? Change to LED's, no that would be to simple you're all going with the full TD5 conversion aren't you? Think I'm gunna cry now!

Think I'm gunna cry now! already done the Td5 conversion on mine If you want to try the led option, PM your address to me & you can try the green leds I used to have in the original gauges, if you decide to keep them we can sort a price/postage cost out later. Mo Murphy
Go with what you have at the moment mutley and plan for a TD5 clocks conversion. It's a world apart from the old ones and all the hard work of how to make it work is done. Mo
