Les Henson
Oh dear, front wheel? Someone has buggered it up The reason for welding it up is usually to bodge up any play there might have been between driveshaft and drive member. You won't be able to strip the hub in any way at all with it welded like that. To repair it - you will have to grind the weld off right back until the flange comes off, then replace the CV joint as you just ground off the end of it. New CV joint/drive member, 2 x shims, gasket, and circlip to fix it. Les.
lacrits68
Hello! Im no sure if its welded...bacause i found parts of circlip or chims in the "cup" protecting the hubb! there was alot of rust in the "Cup" when i removed it! can clearly see "round leftovers" in it! cheers Jan
Les Henson
Clean off the rust and then undo the 5 x 17mm bolts. The drive flange should then come off. Looks pretty bad to me even if it's not been welded. Les.
Off Road Toad
Good luck getting that off! From past experience of customers vehicles when things get that bad you usually have to resort to the gas axe or a grinder. I think you may be compiling a list of required new parts soon. lacrits68
hello! it seems that parts are "electricity glued"...! heres a pic of flange sanded and after some angelgrinding: sadly i cant separare them...getting p** off..! But you can see how worn flange has been before welding..! cheers Jan
Disco-Ron
Looks to me like you'll have to grind the flange off totally aswell.........................
Ex Member
Grind a bit more and hit the stub of the CV with a big hammer. It should be able to move in. Then new CV and drive flange. Don't you love previous owners. They could have just replaced the drive flange. They cost nothing....
Les Henson
I beg to differ - they are about a tenner Les.
lacrits68
Don't you love previous owners. They could have just replaced the drive flange. They cost nothing.... Yes I do! Fixed it myself...saved a quid! I rather keep my 110 as standars as possible cause "original" parts are easier to find when thay brake, rather that "custom/special" parts! Our 110 is used as "overland/adventure" car! last summer was "russia-with-rover" with discovery...110 was bought after that trip, cause we realized that disco 2 is too small for longer trips..! cheers Jan
