350ypvs
I'm going to do an oil change on my 90 gearbox (lt77) i can see the drain plugs for the main box and the extension box but can only see one filler/level plug. The extension box has an oil pick up pipe and pump so i assume this gets its oil from the main box,is this correct or have i missed something. I can't see any mention of a filler/level plug for the extension box in the Land Rover workshop manual or the Haynes.
Les Brock
Transfer box filler should be to the left hand side from the transmission brake drum looking from the rear !
western
Correct only the one fill/level point on LT77 main gearbox.
350ypvs
I'm not doing the transfer box Les. Thanks Western
Les Brock
Gearbox filler is forward of the transmission brake on the righthand side of the LT77 looking again from the rear about half way up and yes it is awkward to get to !!

scube
hi les do you know where the filler plug is for a zf 4 spd auto box ta I always considered the filler for the ZF 4 speed auto to be one of those things where the engineers sat back pleased with themselves for a good job done having a cup of tea when a technician came in and asked how to fill the gearbox with oil? The engineers would look at themselves and Oh hell forgot about that try poring it in through the dip stick ! Yes you fill the box through the dip stick. Remember the torque converter holds a couple of litres and always check the level with the engine running.
