Mo Murphy
I work in the GM Vauxhall Vivaro/Renault Trafic/Nissan Primavan van factory in Luton. I do two jobs at work, a week about Week one sees me working on body-in-white in the body shop, metal finishing, which is prepping the bare metal shells prior to paint, repairing body damages. And week two sees me working on the weld hoist at the end of general assembly, which is a body shop function involving the repair of damaged or missing studs, bosses, broken bolts, stripped threads etc. on finished vans. A nice little number with my own 4 post lift, welder and surrounded by weld curtains so noone can see in Mo
gruntus
Started off as apprentice Electrical-Fitter in Rosyth dockyard (when it was owned by the MOD). Worked there for 14 years on submarines and even London Underground Train refiits!! (I had a spell in nuclear refuelling as well, now that was interesting work!) Retrained in IT in 2000 as the yard had gone down hill rapidly (been private for a while) and submarine refits were coming to an end. No longer have to do "real work" however but I do miss the banter. I don't miss crawling around bilges, bumping my head or accidently kneeling on studs though! Land Rovers however seem to fill my "need".......... Someone once mentioned that it was "a sickness" I recall ridiculing my father as an anorak (he has tinkered with land rovers for years including putting a 3.5 Rover V8 into a Safari back in 1980 as well as building a hybrid 90 from a Range Rover chassis/ Diahatsu engine). Not a bad accomplishment when you consider the little amount of help/information back then (no forums , no Land Rover Owner International ). Now it has come full circle, I have turned into my Father and I continue on with the tradition.........

Les Henson
Les - was that at Gatcombe Park? - Me Dad lives next door. Yes, that's the place, where all the overweight, close-to-retirement coppers go. Walking around in pairs with teensy little .38 revolvers strapped to their waists. Si - now you know your destiny Les.

Just at the end of the tour we passed the fuel filling station either petrol or diesel and just around the corner was the parking bay for defect vehicles, gues what was there? a transit with a wrong fuel sticker! seems even the factory get it wrong. Interesting how they inflate tyres, insert valve, apply tyre, squash both sides with 2 'pancake' machine, blow air release machine, took about 2 seconds!
