Dead Handy Paul . I just bought 2 new Daf CF75 6x4 , How the hell can I raise the PTO RPM from 800 to 1100 , My main dealer(Imperial Commercials) says its a job for the body builder , My Body builder says its a job for the main dealers ?????

Sorry i havnt replied sooner Jase,been away at the midland off road club challenge since friday and just got home.The PTO speed should be fairly easy to increase with the davy computer at daf.Are yours euro4 cos it may be differrent? i will find out for definate when i go back to work on tuesday cos we dont have much to do with that side of things but the engine is the thing that needs altering so i cant see why it would be anything to do with the bodybuilders :rolleyes:

Well Mark if you bottle it up you can sell it to Euro 4 truck drivers , Well almost , Most of the truck manufacturers that make trucks to meet the new euro 4 emmisions standards now use a product thats known as Adblue , Its made throgh a chemical process and has the same properties as Uretha (P**s)

The Adblue is atomised into the Cat knocking down harmful emmisions , And no it dont smell of p**s .

Smells of amonia and looks very acidic , I guess thats why it comes in plastic drums .

So start bottling it up Pikey , (No im not taking the p**s)

Hi,

Studied mechanical engineering and my job description is 'mechanical specialist' at a company in the aliminium smelter industry. Basically I design and commision equipment and improvements for/to the al industry.

Before that I worked in the motor industry doing similar things, just a very different industry.

Oh yes, guess this could be a chance to network. If you're looking for a young/junior mechanical designer (I have a fair amount of quality experience), then give me a shout.

Spent most of my working life in Telecommunications from BT engineer through sales, support and management roles in various companies.

Currently working for myself contracting as a Commercial Manager to a large Telco, also do Interim Management, Project Management and Client / Contract Management. I spent a lot of years travelling all over the globe running outsource projects which was nice until it gets boring.

Started out building lorry bodies, then moved on to sale’s of motor parts, moved on to being self employed Agricultural contractor then bought a Petrol Service station built an MOT bay and run it for 20yrs along side a 24hr Vehicle recovery Company, still own the garage but is leased out I have a property rental company now and a 4x4 pay and play site (Bures) plus 4x4 training.

I'm a Rotating Equipment Engineer working for a global engineering contractor, based on the outskirts of Reading (just a short stroll away from MJIbex's gaff).

I'm handling the engineering of the pumps for a LNG plant for our Australian client, based near Karratha. To give an idea, some of the pumps weigh 6 tonnes each, are fully submersible and pump liquid natural gas at -162 Celsuis.

Prior to this job, I spent almost 10 years as a Sales Manager for various pump / compressor companies. Prior to that, I was a design engineer for PTFE spring-energised seals - exactly the type found on the swivel housing of most LR's.

Mo - you can go to college to learn forestry management/surgery and other aspects of tree cutting/felling. Alternatively you could pay to learn and pass all the various modules you need to do whatever type of tree work you are interested in doing and then once you have passed - look for work with a forestry management company that would be prepared to take you on. Plantation thinning is usually good money, and that's how I started off. You generally get paid by the ton, which you can to a certain degree negotiate the price, but then it's left up to you how much you earn - the faster you work=the more timber you cut=the more money you get paid. It's REALLY hard work though - felling, cutting, and stacking timber certainly keeps you fit. To earn a good wage you would have to cut between 8-11 tons of timber every day. There are different methods of payment too - some pay you on what you have cut but is still on the ground and others pay you by the load (18-23 tons at a time), some even make you wait until they have been paid for the timber. One bloke I worked for paid me a set daily wage and then squared me up each time he was paid for a load.

I work for my parents, we supply all manner of gaming machines (fruit machines in pubs, club machines) and all otehr pub/club stuff, like pool tables, jukeboxes, videos,condom vend machines, music systems and stuff like that.

I'm a service engineer, but now promoted to the dizzy heights of workshop manager. but i'm still out on the road a lot, which is handy for shopping,walking the dog, picking up landie bits and dropping off landie bits nice. ;)

Out of interest any idea what the agent pay as a percentage to the actual cutter?

The electric people had to get access, so some of my trees were cut down and the forestry agent only stopped 10%, which I thought was quite good.

Back on topic.... run a transport firm. No where near as qualified as most of you, so have to do my own thing.

I am a chartered Naval Architect, currently setting up my own Yacht/Inland Waterway Surveying business, based from sites in London, North Surrey, and from Gosport for the Southcoast.

Previously Senior Manager at Lloyd's Register, looking after technical software development. Got in the way of having fun!!

The 90 will be used as my main work transport. Adding full business to the insurance only cost me about £20 per year with the NFU!

I work as the engineer responsible for electrical and control systems for Pinzgauer, developing the new electrical systems and working on customer equipment fit outs. Also tend to cover material spec queries as my degree was in material science and engineering. Previously worked for Britax first in planning and then production engineering working on aircraft interior projects (Galleys, wardrobes, bulkheads, beds, toilets etc).Also worked for a trade association as technical officer- for the caravan industry which was a very diverse job.

Had a number of other casual jobs, particularly whilst at Uni- ran a mobile disco and regularly DJ’ed in the Union. Worked as local crew/ follow-spot op/ stage hand at the Guildford Civic Hall and also at various other venues, including Guildford festival.
