reb78
I've got a few litres of MTF94 left over from my gearbox. I know GKN specify ATF in the overdrive, but will i be ok to use the left over MTF94 in it? I've gone back to ATF in my gearbox (LT77s) as i had a few problems with it and it was working out expensive to keep draining and changing MTF94. The gearbox is working fine on ATF, so i have nothing to use the MTF94 on now and was wonderign if this could go in the OD as i plan to change the oil on this at every other service rather than every 50k as GKN originally specified. Thanks
western
can't see why the MTF shouldn't work in the GKN.
reb78
Thats what i thought Ralph. I emailed Martin at D44 with the same question and this was his answer: 'I would change the oil every 6000 miles and I would use ATF as it probably has a higher temperature rating than the mtf 94' Might have to stick with the atf and change the oil more often perhaps. western
Hmmmm, would have thought both fluids would be more than capable of dealing with the temp, a main gearbox gets fairly warm too.
reb78
True... When i get bored at work tommorow i'll see if there is any info i can find. I was suprised by the answer since many swear by MTF94 as an improvement on ATF.
reb78
Cant find anything specific, but this thread http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=53160 and the fact the MTF was designed to operate at higher temps seems to suggest it would be ok in the OD.
