clutch problem

Recommended Posts

hi all,

Have a defender td5,seeming to have cluch problems.

Was driving along the other day and then randomly the clutch pedal just fell to the floor with only about 10mm of effective travel(just enough to use 2nd, 4thand 5th!

When re-bled its ok, for about 50 miles then it goes back again,

Checked the slave cylinder, however couldnt see anything apparent,(not sure how stiff its meant to be???)

Any one got any other ideas?

the td5's done 137,000 miles, however it was a rather spontaneous failidge, so not quite sure what to look for!

Thanks in advance

Grant

At a guess I would say the master cylinder is the prime suspect, if the seals inside has rotted as I think they're made of rubber or the side is pitted, then it's either clean up or renew.

But I'm no mechanic (ask Western) had a similar problem on my 300tdi and this was the case, hope it helps.

Cheers Mutley
