A James
Hi all I was wondering if anyone could help me. I have a disco 1 300tdi which has done just over 200 000km. I am the second owner and so far the turbo has not been replaced. I recently cleaned out the intercooler and noticed quite alot of oil in there. I also checked the turbo fan whilst I was about it and noticed that there is about 4mm of play (up and down) on the shaft. I was wondering if this was excessive and if this means that the turbo is about to go? I have also noticed a whistling sound recently when the turbo kicks in- not very loud but still noticable. Any ideas? Thanks in advance Andrew
Les Henson
Oil in the intercooler is fairly normal - they are supposed to be flushed out every now and then, but people don't. 4mm of play is too much - a couple of mm maximum. I think you can get repair kits for them now off of E-Blag. Les.
gripper
mine had loads of play and went through lots of oil too, it also had white smoke when the turbo kicked in when it was cold, had to replace it.
