200 Tdi double sump

No such thing as a double sump on any LR Tdi engine, it just looks different because the 200TDi has a ladder frame bolted to the blocks lower face [to stiffen the casing to help damp out pulseing from the direct injection system] the pressed steel sump is then bolted to he bottom face of the ladder frame.

The additional ladder frame isn't used on the 300Tdi, the block was re-engineered/designed to have a stiffer block.

Are you sure? My mate who's been a Land Rover mechanic for well over 25 year seems to think differently? Maybe do defender and disco engine have a different sump?

here's a double sump see the thick alloy bit? It's so that your engine can run when your sideways fitted to diggers and plant machinery and some land rovers.

Sorry Nick - that's not a double sump. The "thick alloy bit" is the ladder frame that Ralph (Western) described in his earlier post. In the photo, from top to bottom you can see the engine block itself, the ladder frame section, then the sump - nothing more complicated.

Regards,

Matt
