greetings pop pickers

i have a disco 2 td5 and have just bought a caravan, after two outings i feel i need more power from the engine, not necessarly more speed, the landrover guy who does my servicing says that there are plug and forget gizmo,s that take care of all the necessary remapping without the need for much actual mechanical intervention, i know absulutly nothing about this and would kindly ask for guidance from those in the know.

thanks

tony

Before you chip it or have it re-mapped are you sure it's working correctly, reason I ask is I have just been through this all be it on a defender TD5, power loss is a common issue that can be several things which you should have a look at before "improving it"

I intend to have mine re-mapped Ian (porny, on here) does a great job that has been recommended by lots of people however I seem to have been losing speed top end and using loads of fuel lately, mine was a combination of two things.

The MAF and the Fuel Pressure Regulator, although none of them had failed they both had faults on them and were failing. I replaced both parts in just over an hour and it now pulls like a train again.....

I already have the EGR removed and plan to get an exhaust de-cat, only then will I get the remap but take my Land Rover to Ian so that he can create a re-map for my use and engine/vehicle which I think is a better way than just plugging in a generic chip and about the same money.

Jason.

i find disco 2's high geared without a caravan on!

what sze wheels tyres you running? could go down a profile or two to lower the gearing?

i have a 2003 td5 that was remapped by the po with td5alive at billing it also has an egr removal kit

it's a super upgrade i regulally tow a triple axle bj tiltbed trailer with either a discovery or a 100" hybrid on it , over a 1,000 miles or so mostly with the trailer on it and on twisty irish b roads alot of the time it averaged 24.5 mpg , without it's pushing 33mpg and that's owning it for about 7 months now ,i also have a standard car and that's carp compared to the chipped one ,

I had my Td5 breathed on by Td5 alive and I'm very impressed.

Before I went there though, I took out the EGR and that made a useful difference. However, the Td5 remap was quite astonishing. If I'm restrained and drive it sensibly then economy has increased noticeably. Trouble is, it's so tempting to put the foot down now.....

Next stage probably take out the exhaust cat.

de egr, kenlowe fan, jeremy fern intercooler, silocone hoses, then map it and a decat pipe plenty can be done but all these together makes for a very good motor though to be honest if you want real grunt fit a v8!

a tuned td5 is way more tractable and faster in the real world driving than a D11 V8 - or it is when i compare my td5 manual to the outlaws V8 auto.....
