darzo
Hi I have a 54 plate Freelander TD4 Auto. Have towed with it 3 times but last weekend we towed with it, it started making a weird noise like air blowing, lost power going up slopes and it kicked out black smoke, it's doing the same without the van on the back. Oh also an eggy smell, we are assuming the cat? Does this sound like normal faults for a cat that's breaking down? Any other suggestions please. Thanks. K88 MUD
Top intercooler hoses.....one on the left and one on the right top of engine.....look for oily residue around them and im sure you will find a split. Normaly on the bottom edge....get your hands dirty and have a feel.

Llanigraham
Eggy smell is more likely to be the air con needing cleaning, especially as what we call a "cat" on the diesel is actually a particulate filter. They just smell smokey when they do a burnclean.
