Les Henson
Continuing saga of catflap took another step forwards at 12:00 am this morning, in that I finally made a lamp guard for him. The only other thing that took so long to get right was the damned exhaust downpipe. I locked myself away in my inventing shed, with miles of 13mm x 3mm steel, and just after midnight finished the drivers side one. This morning I copied it in reverse for the other side, and tomorrow they are off to be grit blasted, and then satin black finish to complete the 'tarts handbag' effect. Two pics of the items as they are now. The military lights I want are now fitted as you can see, but they stick out and look a bit odd to be honest. The lamp guards make this less noticeable, and I thought the best way to smooth things out was to make my own guards that didn't restrict light output in any directionm - even the limited side view from this type of lens. Depth of a military lens viewed from the side is 12mm, so the guard is proud from the metal base of the light unit by the same amount. Les. Hybrid_From_Hell
Les, They are of course untested and a trial for Catflaps protection ? I would therefore suggest you lend them to Tonk for "Gentle" testing for a weekend..... Nige
Les Henson
I would therefore suggest you lend them to Tonk for "Gentle" testing for a weekend..... Yes, but he would scrape them, mabe even chip the paintwork!! Besides, he probably wouldn't know what 4xM5 coarse nyloc nuts, and 2 x 4mm self tapping screws are. Cable ties and nails are more of what he understands. Do you think he might respond to this thread? Les.

The truck now only has ONE lamp gaurd IIRC we also managed to bust a halfshaft on more than one truck and other sundry items during a little light recovery a few minutes into the evening and ended up heading home with our tails between our legs within an hour of setting out. But it was a hoot
Les Henson
I like what you did Pritch. Wish I had thought about doing that. The front wings are finished now, but I have new rear galv sections that the lights are attached to, so I might have a re-think. Must be awkward to unscrew the lenses isn't it? Les. 02GF74
Les, You are aware those guards are not legal for use on the roads in the UK? Lamps should be E-approved, usually the E-mark is moulded in the lens, your headlamp guard looks like it is V-approved.
pritch1
hi les unscrewing the lense is not a problem at all, the o ring works well to stop the binding and a little bit of copper slip stops anything going stiff. I have set mine right back but can actually bring them out 10mm or so if u drill a smaller hole. going to put some resin in mine to make them bash prof, i say all this and ive only actually got round to doing one so far
