ChrisLR2
Does anybody know a rough price a usual Land Rover specialists garage will charge to replace the footwell behind the pedals in a 90, as its rotting away at the bottom. The base (straight part) of the footwell is fine, but the small strip of metal in between the base and pedal section has a hole and rot also. If anyone has any idea idea it will be appreciated? Thanks Chris
adam300Tdi90
Well it's £40 just for the panels Here - YRM Metal Solutions. Then, perhaps a days worth of labour (more likey to be two, what with all the strip down needed?? Therefore at least 8 hours at £20 p/hour? I'd say you'd be lucky to spend less than £200. More likely £250 all in. If it takes them two days (it really shouldn't though), obviously more. All guess work however, when my footwells went I replaced the entire bulkhead, as I was rebuilding anyway (but I don't recommend that). Yeah don't need the do any bulkhead work, its solid as a rock. I may take it to the the garage i've taken my Landys to in the past and get a quote, they do a very good job and their prices are pretty fair i think. bishbosh
Time to spend the cash on a welder and learn to do it yourself. You will save a fortune in the long run maintaining a land rover!!
FridgeFreezer
Two days to replace a bit of footwell you're having a giraffe! OK stripping carpets out is a PITA but, well, proper landys shouldn't have carpets anyway , and you can do that bit yourself even if you get an adult to do the welding. Two days to replace both entire footwell panels (MAX), which includes stripping most of the bulkhead to do it properly. I've tried giraffe and I don't like it. Must be what horse is like. brighouse shed
another new to land rover ownership mine is a 1991 90 200tdi fairly solid but has footwell needing bit of remedial, namely side panel from door post and top section above pedal box coming onto bulkhead. my other bits are battery box, bit under drivers seat which need small plating areas it's 20 odd years since i welded but am off to buy a mig set and wonder for general bodywork if anyone has some advice on current typically used either with gas or with cored wire. my mate has a very nice 300A industrial transmig unit with pulsing cooling etc which will be ace for my chassis in years to come but with my skill will be great for acting as a plasma cutter on my floor etc thanks
LandyManLuke
Gasless is a bad idea for bodywork, it creates a lot of spatter and mess and is pretty hot, which causes distortion issues with thin material. Have a look at www.mig-welding.co.uk

brighouse shed
thanks for that, good advice realise need to look at bigger power, as the man says the manufacturers claims are somewhat optimistic. my experience was with full industrial kit where the new lightweight stuff was hobarts 300 series. reckon i need a 135 ish for panels etc
