Jumping on this post as it seems to have the TD5 wiring answers

Does anyone know where I can get the accompanying adapter for the td5 binnacle clocks (I have the 16 and 20pin ones for the warning board) - the socket that takes the temp, fuel, speedo, illumination etc to the clocks.

Cheers,

James

I think they are like rocking horse s**t. I'm pretty sure that most of us, that have done the td5 upgrade, just buy a suitable multi plug connector and use that to connect the guage and lighting loom to the dash loom.

I think it was somewhere within the 'wibbly wobbly speedo' thread this was mentioned.

As you say, info.is in the 'wibbly wobbly speedo' thread, but I'll post it here as well.

The Connector you're looking for is a Sumitomo HD Series 14-Way Female Connector

Sumitomo Part No. - 6090-0253

If you want to try and source a used connector, they can be found in -

  • TD5 Defender - Main Harnesses (Main Harness to Instrument Harness - C1040)
  • Freelander 1 - Main Harness (Passenger Compartment Fuse Box - C0581)
  • Discovery II - RH Electric Seat Link Harness (C0772)

and, according to the Rover RAVE -

  • Rover 600 (LHD & RHD - 2.0L MEMS & Diesel) - Cabin to Side Harness, LH Side (C062)
  • Rover 600 (LHD & RHD - 2.0L MEMS & Diesel) - Cabin to Floor Harness, LH Side (C078)

The Female Terminals are the same as the ones used in the Hazard Warning Lights Switch -

Sumitomo 090 Female Terminals -

Part No. - 8240-4422 (for 0.5-1.25mm2 cable)

Part No. - 8240-4412 (for 0.3mm2 cable)

Available from SWS-Europe...in quantities of 5,000 :P

I just used a 15-way multi-plug connector pair as Paul above says. You could raid a scrapyard vehicle and cut the plug off the loom, I've heard of it being found in Freelanders and Hondas. Then you'd solder your vehicle's wires onto the wire tails you acquired.

Isn't the Rover 600 based on some sort of Honda?

Or, you could use the scavenged Connector Shell with new terminals crimped onto your wires.

Yes I think so. I had a comment on my tech blog from someone who said they found it in a 1998 Honda. In fact I think it was from a chap called Muttland, who I believe posts on here.

Yep, one of these Accords:

You can see the similarities I am sure!

Well what are you doing with it? Just converting an earlier vehicle to Td5 dash?

If so you only need an 11-way connector, the Td5 setup only uses 13 of the 14 pins in the connector, and two are unused for the basic conversion (the YK and K wires). So a 13-way Econoseal would be fine, just replace it pin-for-pin.

got this today, fits perfectly, and as you dont need the male connectors you can snip the first third off them and use then to connect directly to the individual terminals on my electric window switches although £10 is a bit steep for a socket :-(
