Finn
This came together with a fairey winch and series pto I bought from Steve. I have asked him if he knows what it is for, but he has not replied yet. Looks like an adapter plate.. Has anyone got an idea? Cheers, Finn

Finn
But what is it used for? It is used on a disco.. so its not a part of the fairey winch / pto combination? Cheers, Finn
western
it's part of the bearing carrier on the transfer box where the PTO or overdrive fits, probably been removed to fit the Winches PTO unit.
Aragorn
the PTO should only replace the cover plate, not the bearing carrier surely?
reb78
Ralph got there first. Looks like the bearing carrier.
Bush65
It is the rear bearing carrier. In one of the pics you can see part of the bearing outer race (also called the cup with taper roller bearings). The other parts of the bearing are mounted on the transfer case input gear. That bearing carrier is removable so the input gear can be fitted/removed from the transfer case. Sometimes when the rear cover (or a PTO that replaces the rear cover) is removed, the bearing carrier sticks to the cover (or PTO) - depends upon procedure used for how the parts are split at disassembly. Les Henson
It's the outer bearing carrier for the standard output gear from the gearbox to the transfer box. I'm not too familiar with the Fairey winch, but it might be surplus to requirements. Some winches/ Overdrives are fitted with the cover plate and outer bearing cariier removed, and some are not. Les. Finn
But what I don't understand, what does a disco part do on a series PTO? Cheers, Finn
David Sparkes
But what I don't understand, what does a disco part do on a series PTO? Cheers, Finn Possibly it just got mixed up in the wrong 'box of bits'. If it doesn't fit your gearbox, but all the other bits do, there is nothing missing, and the PTO works, then it's surplus to requirements. Regards. Phil Hancock
But what I don't understand, what does a disco part do on a series PTO? Cheers, Finn Absolutely nothing.

Bush65
People have used different names for the same parts, which may lead to some confusion. So I have included pics from the LT230T Overhaul Manual. The item in question is item number 9 in these pics.
FridgeFreezer
Also see: Fairey 525 drop-PTO fitting manual (LT230) Or slightly later: H14W hydraulic PTO winch fitting manual (also LT230)
Finn
By the way.. would this also fit to an lt230 defender box? Cheers, Finn
reb78
It doesnt look quite like the one from my LT230 - my bearing carrier doesnt have all those cut out/hollow sections in it, it is solid.
FridgeFreezer
It it fits an LT230 it fits an LT230, should interchange with anything. The "extra" holes I believe are oiling for the PTO / input gear, early LT230's suffering input spline wear hence the later cross-drilled input gear.
