D1SCO TDI
Hi ive taken the o/s/f stub axle apart because of a grinding/squeeking sound under load and noticed the cv joint has score markes from the stub axle.....just wondered if anyone else has come across this before. i have a new cv joint on order but should i replace stub as well ???? Niamh
What's the needle bearing like? Can't see it in the stub axle photo. Niamh
Aragorn
The brass bush comes off, so assuming the rest of the stub axle is fine, you can just replace it on its own. Probably a good idea to replace the needle bearing inside, as they're not dear. The CV joint is supposed to bear against that brass bush, however the scoring suggests to me either too much preload (its set by the circlips on the end of the drive flange) or not enough lubrication? D1SCO TDI
Ive managed to get a brass thrust washer from the local land rover stealer.....and pressed it on. So fingers crossed it was a mix of that and the Cv joint causing the fault.
D1SCO TDI
Update: all fixed - running very smooth now.....the cage in the cv joint was broken.
