LandyManLuke
Solid? box? which material? If you want to buy something to those exact dimensions, you will need to look through the Yellow pages for a machine shop who will machine or bend to your requirements. They may well ask for a drawing.
FridgeFreezer
A local stock holder should be able to supply, albeit they'll probably want to sell you a 7m length, or if you want a short bit at twice the price you could try metal supermarket. need4speed
Thanks for the responses guys. Either solid or box-section would do. Angle wont do so B&Q are prob out.
Mark
have a look on parkersteel.co.uk Their techincal catalogue is online and will tell you what the stock sizes and dimensions are. That way if you go a stockholder, you can ask for a standard size. You can buy direct from parkers too, but again, it will be 6m lengths plus a delivery charge (from canterbury). In terms of places to get it from, I would suggest getting friendly with a local fabrication shop, and seeing if they will let you raid thier scrap bin, or buy cut lengths from stock. hth Mark
Bowie69
Can be pricey for short lengths, but have a look on ebay, there are fabricators selling off meaningful offcuts which could be easier in the end. Or as said, any engineering shop/fabricators should be able to sort you out
FridgeFreezer
Stockholders will sometimes cut it if you ask nicely, although my local one can require several days notice to turn the saw on Last time I took a cordless sabre saw and chopped it down in the car park. jbs
Find yourself a local small engineering shop that does welding fabrication etc like I've got where I live in Frome I've used this guy for quite sometime for my steel and it's always good to have a rapport with them as normally they'll give you advice if you need it too HTH John
scrumps
Hi, I buy my bulk stock for my Model Traction Engine(s) from Parkers (see above in this thread) but for small quantities I use Live Steam Models. Catalogue attached, I reckon you could use 1 1/4" x 5/8" steel @ £8.58 per meter (stock no. 09/1112) Regards Scrumps http://www.livesteammodels.co.uk/pdf/MES2010d.pdf
