Challenger 4x4 Championship Round 4 - The aftermath...

So........ How was it for everyone else. Seemed to be the best turnout of competitiors and pretty good support on the spectator side of things, too.

We had a cracking day. A great selection of punches and the site was the driest I've ever seen it, so it was all accessible for a change!

Apart from the front locker and the rear winch not playing their respective games, it all went swimmingly well and we came out with just a couple of extra dents...

Big thanks to the organising team... Paul and Lucy of course, but all the others behind the scenes as well.

Also thanks to all the marshalls for their efforts.

I don't think I need mention the Scrutineers!!!!!!

Lets see some pictures then!!

Big thank you to the scrutineers for passing my truck! I expected to have to spend a couple of hours with the Gaffer tape at least!

The truck however only lasted one punch before a steering joint broke slightly! Result - no steering!

I have a plan for next time though!

I had a brilliant day and am so looking forward to the next event I can enter!

This was my first time at Slindon...Kev knows the site well, and thankfully could navigate around between punches!

We had a frustrating day. No charging through the batterie meant that every time we used the winch, it killed the engine and we had to jump start from a small battery on our (empty) rear winch tray.

So, we did all 10 of our punches without a winch!! This included the really tricky 4 in a row (6-8 I think).

All was going well until we got to the special stage, and the gearbox broke! Early retirement for us =[

So, our fix it list for the next event: Charging/Wiring, Gearbox, New Windscreen...

Good fun though =] see you all soon

Tom

I had a brilliant and fun day, many thanks to Paul, Lucy and everybody else especially my co-driver Dom and my brother.

My sprained ankle just about held up, I just wish it was as easy to fix as the broken brake light and pop'd rear quarter glass on my truck

as always slindon is a very good site, it is one of my favourite sites.the special stage was very good although i did get out before barry went up the hill, i think im taking after jason and we got 7th so not to bad. we suffered a split rear brake pipe 3 hours before the the end so it set us back an hour but fixed it with a hammer and helping hand from kevin moss with some brake fluid, thanks again kevin and a 4th place finish. thanks again as always to the marshalls, paul for setting out some very interesting punches and all the rest team that make this event possible.

another good event, carl did a sterling job driving chris's car!!!!!! . . we had a cracking day, altho we were hampered by the headsets giving up the ghost just after lunch, man how much running around do they save, i was knackered lol ... the special stage was outstanding and i even found myself shouting at carl to boot it !!!!!!!! ( the brave pills i had taken appeared to have work lol ) ... we thought we where heading for a good result then """ BANG "" the steering arm snapped which bought are day to a premature end ,,,, but a massive thanks to the small army of people that came to our rescue and helped us get the vehicle back, altho walking along next to the DONKEY " chris's 90" was a bit like a funeral prossesion ... MASSIVE THANKS TO LUCY/PAUL AND CO AND ALL THE MARSHALLS,,, BRUDDY MARVELOUS JOB .... Cant wait for tixover....

As Mr Orange said, we had an excellent day. I have just about stopped hurting...

The score card makes for very interesting reading - it was very close, and the handicap system really does make it interesting, particularly given that the guys who won were on thier first event!

Big thanks to everyone concerned - paul, lucy, sara, et al.

I have also never been involved in a funeral procession for a car that kept wanting to escape either... When's the wake Kelly?

Cheers

Mark

i must say though she has never come back with such a short repair list :D:D

the results make very interesting reading when a std class car can get 35 punches must be the hand of god

They were in a Zuk, though Chris. They just picked it up and carried it to the punches!!!

I'm sure you'll still manage to have a list of things to do on the day of the event!! You wouldn't want to ruin your rep now, would you...:P

Any chance of some of that video you were taking, Ben??I'd quite like to see the bit of us doing the 'easy punches' in the outback and waving wheels in the air...

I will try to sort it out before the next event if not i will put it on a DVD for you, i am not too sure how much i got but your welcome to it.
