Fairey Overdrive - Leak?

I have a small weep from my overdrive. It is coming from the area circled below:

Where the D-shaped bit sticks out the back of the casting, there is a weep of oil. Will probably become a proper leak with use. I'm assuming that this is the end of the lay-shaft I'm looking at, and the reason for the leak is the o-ring show in the cross-section above?

The manual for the overdrive lists the part as RTC7166, which translates to an o-ring service kit like this:

So, is it as simple as replacing the o-ring? Or is it like the LT230 intermediate shaft problem, where it will just come back?

Bear in mind the vehicle in question has sat on a driveway for 10-plus years without moving, and my shunting it about is the first sign of use it's seen in that time!

Many thanks

James

Well I'd replace the o-ring if you're sure that's where the oil is coming from, gotta be worth a go. Maybe add a smear of silicon while you're in there.

IMO though, these Fairey units normally chuck out loads of oil through the split pin breather in the top cover - enough to cover the entire overdrive.

Simple cure for this - tap a hole in the plate and fit a brake bleed nipple, and put a remote breather on it.

Yes, mine gets completely covered in oil too! it made me chuckle reading that, my S2 is like a colander at the moment, could do with the boy with the finger in the dyke, haha! good idea with the bleed nipple breather..
