The V8 Porn Rebuild Thread

Interesting that you had such a job to change the engine info. Especially seeing as yours was a v8 90 anyway.

I just sent the old logbook back with the new engine number on it, and a week or so later the new logbook arrived with the new engine.

There wasn't a capacity change though, maybe that was the difference...?

Mr freak popped in tonight so I have coroboratio That's its not a "Warne" it's a real live running V8 And I promised next time he pops on I'll take him out and cure any constipation issues ..,

 OK with me. I'll then take you out in my little green fibreglass thing (295 bhp/tonne) and return the favour.

Not much progress from my end, I'm afraid. Quite the opposite, in fact, as I've 'acquired' a ball and chain in the last couple of months.....

Right Then forwards and broke ...... :D

1 x Alisport Custome made Ali rad, with huge help and advice from Andrew at Alisport, and some input / request from me

Alisport recomended this

Its wider and taller than the old unit, different core and all Ali it

has its own "Built to fit" Custom Cowling with twin High Power Motor IP67 SPAL fans

Twin switches - one in each tank each will have a slightly differing sender, stops both fans

coming on / off / on in nano seconds - this way 1 x fan tries to get heat down, if so switches off, and then if

not as it loses the second one licks in. they also will have differing targets to switch off as well

Across the front on seperate mountings is a HUGE High Flow Oil cooler to equally get on top of the heat,

cooling the oil is apparently a sure fire way of taking stress off the radiator, so BIG was the order of the day.

Its got twin 1/2 BSP exits as we wanted it to floooooowwwww :D and can be removed for cleaning easily, similarly the

cowling plus fans is made to easily be removed if needed. The engine fan is to be binned and rely now on the

cooler / rad and twin spals

John Eales has advised target engine temp is 85 degrees on the 5.2s so that will be the target !

Need to reserach the sender Units - tonights job and get them ordered Monday along with the

2 x 1/2 BSP adapters and dowty seals needed

Have done a fair bit, base mountings on 90 modded / moved to take bigger rad and give clearance, then tops used -

chopped centre of unit out on drivers side, repositioned and reused 1 x hole and had this line up and filler plug

and tigged the lot togther, seems to wobble on the 4 x rubber mountiungs quite nicely :)

Some pics.

Loads suprisingly to do, need to redo the cooler pipes, wire up twin fans, and sort out the senders being used

New grill mounts as cut pretty much all the old mountings off to get rad in, general paint up, redo top and bottom hoses,

redo grill and do new mountings as all chopped of to get the bigger rad in !

that - and a few other bits before I get to play test pilot :D

More soonish

Sometimes to solve a problem you have to chuck some proper money at it - at least this looks superb for the £s spent

I also have a cunning idea up my sleve that may or may not work - more later - and not for a while !

:D

Oh

and PS ........

And I thought I could sort of now weld ali

There is not ONE iffy weld ANYWHERE on the unit, its a work of art. Whilst many would say expensive, there is a VAST

amount of time in terms of welding skill, and also materials gone into this. Andrew at Alisport said also that they

are not anywhere as fragile as peeps think, whatever, I near took it to bed with me last night

Also had a prob with the grill, so thats been chopped about, new brackets and moved forwards as well

New Rad "Steadys" are going to now come off the Brace Tube and not the sides. Not in a grat mood today
