hi thank you for your reply its very much apprieciated. not to be a newsence but how would you go about removing all the carbon from the pistons?

Use a scraper that looks like a screwdriver but made from hard plastic i.e. softer than the aluminium pistons but hard enough to scrape off the carbon.

You can get brass de-coke brushes from motor factors, it's important to get brass not steel as it avoids damaging the aluminium. They fit in a drill and make the job much easier, stuff rags in the ports to make sure you don't end up with all the crud in the oil ways.
