Mutley
Having done a bit of D.I.Y on the LR I thought I should give it a run out to make sure it was behaving As I live out in the country side I do a fair bit of crop protection (Pigeon Shooting) for a few farms, so decided to have a drive round some of the fields and see if any pigeons were causing a problem! The LR has Insa Turbo Special Tracks fitted (Why have a go anywhere motor and not go anywhere tyres?), I don't do serious off roading but do go up hill and down dales plus across muddy fields and these boots certainly do the job . Any way it's been raining and the LR has picked up a few extra lbs in mud, so after a hour of driving over fields and not seeing much decide to go home for now. Having come to the end of the farm track I have to turn right out onto a busy main road, so after waiting 10/15 mins. there is a gap in the traffic, One car coming towards me from the left side some 180yrds. away plenty I thought and pulls out, obviously this upset the boy racer as there was now a LR in front of him, so he puts his foot down and within 2 seconds seems to be riding in the back of my 90 . Did I mention the other good thing about these tyres? The tread pattern is designed to be self cleaning, and they are Matey is still sitting on my bumper and scowling so I put the LR into 4th and ease into the throttle And watched the fun in the rear mirror as the mud started to fly The best bit is as the stuffs flying all over his bonnet and windows it takes him some 30 seconds or more to decide to drop back another mile up the road and I turn off and the mud spray has died down by this point, as for Muppet boy he never came closer than 50 yrds. all that time Oh yeah and he was, WAS in a white motor too

mmgemini
Nice one Only last week I saw a notice on the back window of a motorhome "Tailgating will cause a decrease in speed"

FridgeFreezer
I shattered a mate's windscreen with a kicked up stone while towing his Pajero - mind you, he'd already mashed the snorkel into the screen and burned the clutch out so he wasn't worried
landroversforever
Fridge, are you sure you didn't get confused between the Pajero and the flying turd from your wheels?
gibbon
Love it! Had a chav tastic duo tailgating me today while I was in the JCB, that back acter came very close to them as they overtook me as I was turning in left! Evolution is good, but why do these idiots replicate!?
landroversforever
the tend to replicate young too
bishbosh
and yet if we were in our cars and saw a muddy trail coming out of a field we would be cursing the farmer....... or what about those on two wheels???
Mutley
and yet if we were in our cars and saw a muddy trail coming out of a field we would be cursing the farmer....... or what about those on two wheels??? I bet you don't tailgate tractors when you see them come drive off the fields And you're on a Land Rover forum, What are you doing having a CAR? Bowie69
Have to agree with Bish here, mud on the road is dangerous to other road users, discourteous, and you can get nicked for it. If going back onto the black stuff I always try and give the wheels a good spin up to speed to clean the treads a bit before leaving a trail of debris, irritating other road users and making them curse 'bloody land rovers, they should all be banned'. Hardly a good advert for the brand/owners is it? And yes, I have a car as we all as my Range... *edit* P.s. Charlie, does this make up for the pillar drill comments? Mutley
This was meant to be a light hearted tail about some Muppet who felt the need to speed up and sit in the back of the motor, getting their comeuppance! We are all aware of what is right and proper, hence why I wasn't going at speed to avoid the mud spray until Muppet boy hitched a ride! I too am of the 2 wheel brigade and know what a pain mud on the roads can be at this time of year, due to combining and ploughing, and with this in mind ride accordingly. As for spinning up before getting onto the road, it is not always possible when the dirt/farm track comes onto the road, hence driving at a speed not to cause the mud to fly too much (unless encountering Muppet boy!) Apologies if this upsets certain people, but some times you have to look to see the funny side of things, like having too much starch in one's knickers could be? elbekko
No worries, sounds like none of the mud actually got on the road
Quagmire
TBH If the chav was that close not much of the mud probably ended up on the road anyway, sounds like his pimp machine did us a public service by catching it all.
dirtyninety
Good man! i hate tailgaters. and young lads wonder why their insurance is sky high.... All young people are tailgaters? You Sir need to think about the statement you have just made. I assure you I've met some middle/old aged men right up my arse (not in that way). Storys like these, farmers getting mud on the road cause so much agro its untrue and here you are boasting about it. You could have caused an accident, and you were putting people lives in danger. This is a stupid thread for lesser minded people, I'm not entirely sure why the Mods havn't locked and deleted this thread, Im sure less damaging threads have been deleted! PS. Landroversforever has made 3 comments on this thread. The first is acceptable (he still didnt engage his brain before typing a reply) and the other 2 are just plain daft and completely pointless. I thought this was a technical forum(?), he clutters up threads like i dont know what!! /rant

I thought this was a technical forum(?), he clutters up threads like i dont know what!! /rant Oh dear, looks like some one from the "Self Righteous, holier than thou, never done anything wrong EVER" brigade has found the thread! Sad very sad! Point 1...There wasn't any BRAGGING!.....It was meant as a light hearted account! Point 2...Look closely! A MOD has commented on the thread!.....So therefore not deemed it necessary to close! Point 3...You yourself are in danger of SPREADING more mud than in the original story! Point 4...One of the sayings amongst LR owners is "One life live it"....May be yours should be "GET A LIFE!" Point 5...As you are after technical advice perhaps you should search for "How best to remove my head from up my A***"! Point 6...Once you have found that info and followed the instructions! Try and do a search for "Humour"! I appreciate Point 5 will be hard for you to do under the circumstances, but stick at it as you and the rest of your kind might benefit! And lastly why post something as you did and not expect it to be commented on? As stated SAD VERY SAD
hobson
Wow, it seems people do get upset! the comment i made regarding young drivers is a valid one, the statistics don't lie, young drivers, especially young lads, have more accidents, more regularly than older drivers. fact. as far as tailgating, it's true, loads of people of all ages tailgate, but in my experience, most of them are young lads, and most of the people who fly past me overtaking stupidly, or fly around roundabouts, tyres screeching, are young lads! thats not to say all young lads are bad drivers, but the sensible ones are far outnumbered by the stupid ones. and age does bring experience, especially with driving. The original post was (as Mutley said) a lighthearted look at a situation, lets not all get overly serious and resort to childish slanging! are we not grown ups?! Mutley
As it's be raining (again!) some of the roads around here are flooded! I have just had a phone call from the wife telling me while she was driving to work this morning, yet again some muppet was Tailgating her and in these conditions of all things My wife is an experienced driver and is more than capable in most situations . So this muppet's hanging off her bumper in the rain and down a narrow country road. Now for the GOOD bit ! This road is flooded! My wife can see this and dives to accommodate the hazard, Muppet guy can't see this as his windscreen is taken up with the wife's RAV4. Next thing he knows he's been swamped by a tidal wave and can't see jack s*** Stamps on the anchors and nearly kills the motor According to the wife as she calmly drives through at a steady speed to maintain the bow wave, muppet guy is left crawling his way out! Shame really I would like to point out that NO mud was thrown in the making of this story Mutley
crclifford
lol....brilliant. Shame it wasn't the same guy, he would of had a free car wash to get rid of the mud!! Chris
TJN
IQ test signs. Figured the link also helps with this type of driver!
Cat_J
I agree also with the young drivers comment, being one myself it makes me more angry than most as I'm paying the insurance premiums as well has having to observe these morons on the roads. With my defender being my first car I had to assume some sort of responsible attitude towards driving as my car would surely kill anything it hit. I must admit though, while the defenders in the barn, it is nice to have a car thats faster than most the boy racers. I wish there were more cops around who would/could just pull over all tailgaters, give them 3 points and £100 fine per offence. That would be much better. Like the sign linky... lol

Diablo
21 doesn't seem to make a massive amount of difference. I've had my truck since I was 17. Now 21 and it has gone down, but not hugely [a few hundred quid]
