chassis drilling

Recommended Posts

I'm waxoyling our 110 this weekend, just done the first 'fun' day under it with the steam cleaner/brushes/air line etc, but noticed the holes already drilled in the underneath low points don't quite allow for good drainage ie, they block easily with sludge.

now the current holes are 10mm and 12mm, how much bigger can i go without causing anything to weaken?

Hmmm, they are a sod for blocking, but surely a 20 or even 30mm hole would allow sufficient drainage for pretty much anything?

i just don't want to drill big holes and then find a crack or worse down the line!

I'm not talking about loads of big holes, just widening the ones in the lowest points...

For a while maybe. Remember, the bigger the hole the more can get in as well.

I regularly find all sorts of stuff, brick, stone, gravel, sand, mud, jammed in places you'd never expect  Bigger holes means bigger bits can get stuck in them.

On mine - and on a trayback I did I drilled out the hole and fitted a BIG

nutwhich I welded in upside down flush with chassis base,

big enough so when the bolts are removed you can get a hose pipe in there,

when not having a hose pipe up there the bolt is shoved in, and it

has a 5mm hole right through it for draining

Best of both worlds :)
