Oh I've run some worn lumps on thicker oil myself but that's quite the same as shoving it in to try and fool a potential purchaser. "You found sawdust and pair of tights in the axle? I know nuffink about that Guv, it was all-right when it left here!" ;)

Maybe

When I FULLY rebuilt the Eales lump in the 90 now, it smoked and rattled until I shioved 20/50 Valvoline in, BBC found similar results after

moving from Magnatec 10/40 to VR1 on his rebuilt lump. I now won't consider any other oils, as the effects can be dramatic between them, it

could be that the 10/40 is one of the thinner ones / ie not all oils of the same viscosity are the same.

V8s are fussy engines, no 2 ever quite seem the same

If it "Fixes" it then its an oil prob, if it doesn't then the engine has something wrong with it, running a knackered engine on

thick oil is a bodge and a con if selling, but both 10/40 and 20/50 and a rnage of oter viscosities are all in the LR Dealership

workshop manuals. if it does work, then explain to the purcahser it did smoke on 10/40 and on advice you changed to 20/50 VR1 and its now better and that your not trying anything on
