derrick Posted September 8, 2010 Share Posted September 8, 2010 HI guys just completed my s3 v8 nut&bolt rebuild. Bl---y AMASING but can anyone help me as i have missed some thing or my mate who done the sparks has but chears for the help mart. the coil is getting realy hot and on a long trip well about 10 miles trip it wont throtel up and it limps back on the drive . then it wont restart untill it has cooled down and then its fine again ready for another short trip. is there any thing i should add to stop this hapening. I have tryed a ballest & non ballest coil but no diference. It is on points and intend to put electronic ingnition in but do not have the exspensive bit yet as funds wont allow after m.o.t ins tax all in one go. ps its a sd1 v8. many thanks in advance chears from aguy who has a permanent silly smile from ear to ear. chears del Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I wouldn't bother saving up for electronic ignition, have a look at EDIS / MegaSquirt'n'EDIS, a much better way to run an engine. There's also the cheap option of using a RR dizzy with a GM ignition amp and silly coil, it's as good as any of the "performance" electronic ignitions (MSD, Ignitior, etc.).
